On a beautiful, sunny afternoon on Sunday, the Titans opened their 2007 campaign with a preseason game against #23 preseason ranked Depauw University. After falling behing 1-0, the Titans equalized late in the game on a goal from Emily Marcheschi (assist to Carly Calkins) and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
With both coaches being cautious with substitution patterns due to various injuries and wanting to give everyone a chance to perform on the day, the game lacked usual intensity that we would find in a regular season match up. However, the goal for the day was to get a look at what each team could do headed into the real thing next weekend. We tinkered with some formation changes and shifting personnel around during the 90 minute contest. I was pleased with our organization and with the fact that we came back after giving away a goal. We defended pretty well for the game, so lots to build upon although we'd all admit there are certainly some things we need to address before the real season begins on Saturday against University of St. Thomas.
